Comcast, Hyatt, Ultimate Software named champions of diversity by Great Place to Work

Comcast NBCUniversal, Hyatt Hotels and Ultimate Software are the three best places to work in the U.S. when it comes to fostering diversity, a survey has found.

The workplaces foster an atmosphere of acceptance for employees no matter their gender, color sexual preference, age or disability.

That is the finding of Great Place to Work, which rounded out the top five companies with Salesforce and Wegmans Food Markets.

The companies “fully maximize the human potential in the workplace,” Kim Peters, Great Place to Work executive vice president, told FierceCEO.

And CEOs who don’t adopt a diverse approach “are missing out on success,” Peters said.

For instance, the top quartile of 100 companies ranked by Great Place to Work is growing its revenue 13.7% faster on an annualized basis than the bottom quartile, Peters said.

Great Place to Work surveyed 442,624 employees across various industries, assessing over 50 elements of the workplace. These include trust in managers, compensation, fairness, camaraderie and workplace traits linked to innovation.

Leading employers enjoyed substantially lower turnover than peers in many industries, more-experienced leadership and a higher than average share of women in management. These traits indicate organizations where all employees are fully engaged, heard and developing to their full potential, Peters said.

At Comcast NBCUniversal, over 90% of employees said management is honest and ethical, workers are proud to tell others they work there, they want to stay there “for a long time,” and management is competent at running the business.

At Hyatt Hotels, more than 90% of staff said the company has unique and special benefits, they feel good about the way the company contributes to the community and they are proud to tell others they work there.

Over 90% of Ultimate Software employees said people care about each other in the company, they are proud to tell each other they work there and feel good about the way the company contributes to the community.

Other findings of the survey:

Women and members of minority groups held longer average tenures at all levels of employment compared with peers.

Survey scores from diverse groups were more consistent with their co-workers’ on measures of compensation and favoritism.

Across organizations considered for the list, white co-workers and men reported a better work experience at employers ranked favorably for equity.

“Diversity is more than policies, programs, or headcounts,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work, in a statement. “True diversity means valuing, respecting, and including all people no matter who they are or what they do for the organization.”
